As the U's prepare for the move to the new stadium, work has been underway this week to dismantle the Layer Road floodlights.

These will be transported across town to the U's new home, as planned on their installation thirteen years ago.

It was decided in 1995 to replace the aging floodlights at Layer Road and use structures that could be relocated once the go ahead was given for an impending move.

Despite it taking a good few years longer than planned to move stadiums, the floodlights can still be moved to the new ground ready for the new season.

It hasn't all been plain sailing for Musco Lighting, the company responsible for the floodlight move, as rusty bolts proved difficult to undo.

All four floodlights were down and ready for collection on Tuesday afternoon though and installation will begin at the new stadium in the next week or two.
