As work progresses on the stadium site, one part of the town's history will remain a constant at Cuckoo Farm.

In the area of the site scheduled to make up the car park for the new community facility, stands an old oak tree (circled), and as part of an environmental Protection Order, the tree will be left standing.

U's Chief Executive Marie Partner told the website: "As part of the planning procedures to bring the stadium to fruition, a number of environmental assessments had to take place.

"This included taking a look at the existing natural habitat in the area, including minimising the impact on wildllife and vegetation.

"This tree has been here for hundreds of years and, due to the Protection Order, will be left as an integral part of the development.

"We are keen that the new stadium site will not be a concrete city and it is our intention that there will be further trees planted around the site to make it a more pleasant place to look at."

The presence of the old oak tree on the site is somewhat symbolic, what with the famous line in the club anthem Up The U's:-

"When we get together what a game we'll see,
"We're as strong as the old oak tree."

CU-FC.com is due to visit the stadium site again in the coming couple of weeks, so stay tuned for more updates!
