Goals from Tom Webb and Anthony Wordsworth were only enough to draw against a young Norwich City side.

It was a fairly experienced side that took on the Canaries, including Aidan Davison, Kevin Watson, John White and Matt Connolly, who have all experienced Championship football.

With all this experience on the pitch for the U's, it was good to see youth team members, Fabian Quintyn and Ben Griffiths in the starting line-up for this latest Pontins Holidays Combination fixture.

There was a bright start from both teams, with the wet surface encouraging slick passing and it was the U's who had the best early chances with both Tom Webb and Anthony Wordsworth having goals disallowed for offside.

Midway through the half, Norwich took the lead after a good run from Luke Chadwick led to David Strikavka finishing low into the corner.

The visitors were only ahead for a few minutes though, as Tom Webb slotted home the equaliser after being put through by a slide rule pass from Luke Guttridge.

Norwich looked the side more likely to score a second before the break but a combination of poor finishing and good keeping from Aidan Davison kept the scores level going into half time.

There was no let up from the rain as the second half started and the slick football was limited by the surface water forming around the pitch.

On fifty five minutes, Tom Webb almost put the U's ahead but his right foot shot went just wide of the near post and moments later, Kevin McLeod entered the fray.

The former Swansea winger hadn't had a touch before Norwich took the lead after good work on the edge of the penalty area resulted in Aidan Davison just failing to get a hand on the shot.

The visitors were having the best of the chances, with Davison making a great save with his legs and pushing another effort over the bar.

With time running out, the U's grabbed a late equaliser from the penalty spot. Medy Elito made a darting run into the box, was tripped before he could shoot and Anthony Wordsworth stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way from the spot.

Right at the death, the visitors could have won the game but Luke Chadwick's shot whistled by the far post and the referee blew for full time seconds later.
