When the fixture list comes out at the start of each season, there are always some arduous trips along the way.

The U's fans contemplating the final few months of the campaign will no doubt be eyeing the midweek trip to Plymouth with more than a little discomfort, whilst there will probably be quite a few Preston fans shaking today's journey out of their legs during the first half this evening at Layer Road.

With many of the construction staff currently working on the new community stadium hailing from north of the border, there are those who have their footballing allegiances with clubs playing in Scotland.

And for one of the recent additions to the Barr team, his loyal support has not wavered despite a round trip of several hundred miles.

Angus MacKenzie, who works as a site agent for Barr on the town's 10,000 all-seater community facility, is a keen Inverness Caledonian Thistle fan and has not let his season ticket go to waste despite his current position in north Essex.

Indeed Angus is yet to miss a home game this season at the Caledonian Stadium, ensuring his shift patterns allow him to get home and watch his lads in action.

Having worked on the Cuckoo Farm site for a while now, he admits to casting an envious eye over the future home of the U's, with whom he sees many similarities with Inverness.

"We both get about the same sort of crowd size, around the 5,000 mark. Our stadium is a bit smaller, about 7,500, and I wish Inverness' ground was like the one we're building for Colchester! It is a much nicer stadium than the one we've got.

"I have been able to get back up to Scotland fairly often and I am very happy with that - so far this season I haven't missed a game apart from a couple of cup games, which doesn't matter quite as much!"

Explaining his current role, he went on: "I am site agent, looking after the fit out of the stands, particularly from the building side of it, rather than the finishing touches.

"In the stadium division, the only one that I have worked on is Easter Road, West Stand and also at St Johnstone. In general I work in the Tesco division, with exactly the same sort of thing I do here, fitting out the stores.

"In construction, it's all very much the same, it is just different things that affect the end product along the way."

Work has really cracked on over the past few weeks, and the stands are really starting to take shape inside.

As we have previously mentioned in the matchday magazine, much of that relies on good weather conditions and the Barr staff and their sub-contractors have reaped the benefit of that in recent weeks.

"The weather has been much better for us recently and I am very happy with how its all going," Angus explained.

"It all seems to be fine so far and things have been going in our favour. Let's hope that continues!"
