A Touch Of Glass
Recent passers-by to the town's new community stadium will have seen that the West Stand has been subject to a 'touch of glass' in the last few weeks.
Whilst windows had previously been put in the West Stand for the boxholders' bar and the Community Sports Trust's information technology suite, they have now progressed further with the glazing in the main column in the centre of the stand.
This has provided a stunning effect in what will be the new main stand at the 10,000 all-seater community facility, with the recent good weather providing the sunlight to give a glint to the rapidly developing stadium.
Glazing has also been added to the areas which will also house the main reception and club shop, with the ticket office windows due to be added soon.
That's what has shown up externally but, as always, there is a hive of activity taking place within the stadium's four sides to take the internal build to the next stage.
With much of the breezeblock and superstructure work nearing completion, the electricians and the plumbers have been drafted in to start the latest part of the Cuckoo Farm development.
Site agent Angus MacKenzie explained: "What we are doing now is getting all the containment in for the electrical works as well as the pipework. We will start running that around the stands in the next two weeks.
"They will supply elecriticiy throughout the ground and we will also be routing the data cables for telephony and internet systems after that.
"It is important to get it right from day one because the last thing you want is to be adding things later on and spoiling the look of the build."
Air conditioning units now being installed in the main rooms in the West Stand, with particular interest being paid to the suite that will host the hospitality, conferencing and banqueting areas once the new ground is open and ready for business.
As always with the development of a building site, there have been some minor tweaks to the plans as things have progressed, as the club and the stadium partners look to get it right from day one.
In the past few weeks, the club have also signed off a number of amendmentsd, including a segregation in the director box seating, to provide a more distinct sectioning of the home and away directors areas.
With safety in mind, the club have also signed off for internal door swipe systems for added security in the West Stand.
Finally, the third change has been a slight alteration in the cladding currently in place level with the first floor.
There will be some of the existing cladding taken out and extra windows placed in at that level in order that the large function room has more natural light!
And it is not only the stadium itself that has been subject to developments in recent weeks. Much of the link road coming through from the FlaktWoods factory has already been completed, but work will take place in the coming weeks to draw that road through and connect it to the Boxted Road entrance at the other side of the site.
