U's boss Geraint Williams made the unusual step of talking to the fans in the immediate aftermath of Tuesday night's defeat at Plymouth Argyle.

119 hardy supporters made the 622 mile round trip for the midweek encounter and, having seen his side fall to a disappointing 4-1 reverse, the U's manager made a point of speaking to the fans after the final whistle.

He told the press after the match: "I just wanted to personally thank them.

"We know what a trip down here it is in midweek and they'll be getting in the early hours of this morning and going to work, so I just wanted to thank everyone for their support and wish them a safe journey home.

"Their main message was we're not giving in, don't let anyone give in and I think that's fantastic.

"I wasn't looking for any pats on the back or tributes because they've come on a long trip and we've got beaten 4-1.

"But the magnitude of their support for the club was seen in 'don't give in, we're not giving in' and that was the message from everybody tonight."
