The U's have confirmed that they are chasing Nottingham Forest full back Matt Lockwood, as boss Geraint Williams continues his summer reshuffle.
The 31-year-old left back, who joined Forest last summer from Leyton Orient after a lengthy stay in East London, has been targeted by the U's and talks are now underway.
"We have had a bid accepted for Matt by Nottingham Forest and we are currently in talks with the player about a move to Colchester United," chairman Robbie Cowling told CU-FC.com.
During his stay with Orient, Lockwood averaged nearly 42 games a season over nine years and gained a reputation as something of a set piece specialist.
Indeed, during his final year at Brisbane Road, he notched eleven goals - including an eleven minute hat-trick against Gillingham to earn the O's a 3-3 draw.
