Huddersfield Town will be the team given the honour of becoming the first to play at the new Weston Homes Community Stadium, after the fixtures were revealed on Monday morning.

The Terriers will be the U's second league game of the campaign, following a lengthy trip to Hartlepool and a Carling Cup tie against Gillingham.

And as the U's prepare for their new era at the 10,000 all-seater stadium, there will be a link with the past - and the club's first ever game.

The first man to be put in charge of Colchester United after their formation in 1937 was Ted Davis, who had played for Huddersfield during his playing career in the 1920s.

His affiliation with the Yorkshire club led him to choose the blue and white stripes that the U's still wear today as their home kit (as worn by Dean Hammond in this story).

Those stripes will be in evidence when the U's take on Stan Ternent's side on August 16th - and that game is now only 61 days away!
