Colchester United's youth team continued their positive start to pre-season with a resounding 7-0 win over Dulwich Hamlet on Thursday evening.

Following the 4-1 victory over Colne earlier in the week, there were more goals on the agenda when the London side came to town.

The woodwork was struck more than once in the first half, but a Michael Rafter goal sent the U's in at the break a goal to the good.

It was all change at the break as a new side took to the field, and a step up in tempo saw the home side run away with the game with six second half goals.

Two triallists grabbed a brace apiece, whilst Jimmy Pirie and Ben Griffiths also scored to give the scoreline a polished look.

"It was a decent work out and we were able to achieve the outcomes we were looking for ahead of kick off," Head of Youth Steve Downey told the official website.

"We upped our game in the second forty-five minutes and that was pleasing.

"Thanks must go to Tony Bowen and the people from Dulwich for coming down and giving us the opportunity to play a game."

After two good victories, things step up a level for Downey's troops next week, as they travel to take on West Brom on Wednesday before playing host to Birmingham City at Essex University next Saturday.
