EDDIE THE EAGLE: Meets Billy the Blood Drop before Saturday's game against Hartlepool United

The U's supporters have come in for praise after a very successful recruitment drive for the National Blood Service at the weekend game against Hartlepool United.

Staff from the NBS were in attendance for the match against Neale Cooper's side and were delighted with the number of fans who signed up to donate blood in the future.

Margaret Calafiore told CU-FC.com: "We would like to thank all the Colchester United supporters who signed up as blood donors at Saturday's match. We really appreciate your support as your donation may help save a life".

"It has been great working with the football club as we are always looking at new ways to reach members of the public. The club have given us a warm welcome and supported the National Blood Service's cause whole heartedly."

There will be a session at some point in the future where boss Phil Parkinson and Chief Executive Marie Partner will also give blood. And, after Saturday's successful link-up, there will be future visits from the NBS.

"We hope to continue working relationships with the club, in the near future with the possibility of setting up a blood donating session at the new stadium," Margaret added.

"Special thanks must also go to Paul Ost from the CUSA (Colchester United Supporters Association) for initially getting in touch with the NBS and initiating the recruitment drive."
