TERRY SUTTON: Hands over a cheque to the Christian Youth Outreach at Layer Road on Friday morning

Local charity Christian Youth Outreach have become the latest group to benefit from the U's Community Shield donations, receiving a cheque on Friday morning.

The U's recently decided on their three charities that would benefit from their share of the 2005 Community Shield monies and, after Headway recently received their cheque from the club, Christian Youth Outreach have now been given theirs.

U's Associate Director Terry Sutton met the group's director Tim Abbott and sports co-ordinator Ben Pratt at Layer Road on Friday, and Tim told CU-FC.com that the monies were very gratefully received.

"We are very appreciative of this donation and thankful to Terry Sutton for thinking of us," he said. "As a charity, we are dependent on donations and sponsors for most of our income.

"The fact that this money has come from the FA and Colchester United has extra meaning for us, as a proportion of this money will be used in our sports outreach projects."

The group operates in the Colchester borough area and, as well as sports outreach projects, the monies donated by the U's will go towards some other very valuable schemes.
