U's chairman Robbie Cowling has admitted he is prepared to back Geraint Williams in the January transfer market should the U's boss decide to freshen up the squad.

The U's have had a steady start to the season and Robbie is eager to help push the team up the league,

He told the Colchester Gazette: "We're always looking for ways to strengthen the squad and the communication between the board at Colchester United and the management is first class.

"But we have to ensure that we identify and bring in players who are at least better than what we have already got.

"We also have to be able to attract them to Colchester United.

"There are lots of things that we are doing at this club that will make it a more attractive proposition for future players.

"But we have to remember that we have a good set of pros at the club already.

"They're tremendous and are getting results so we'll not be foolish."
