A hard working, no nonsense defender, John was named as the U's Young Player of the Year in the club's 2005/6 promotion season after a superb season.
A local boy, he is yet another product of the U's youth system.
Elevation to the Championship required him to exercise some patience as Greg Halford was switched to right back under Geraint Williams' reign.
With Greg now at Sunderland, John will be hoping that he can become the U's regular right back in 2007/8 as he looks to get sustained spells of first team football under his belt.
