Kevin Lisbie ended a twelve year association with Charlton Athletic when he signed for the U's in the summer of 2007.
Having started at The Valley as a trainee, the 28-year-old was released by boss Alan Pardew at the end of last season and joined the U's on trial during pre-season.
His two goals in the warm-up to 2007/8 was enough to convince Colchester manager Geraint Williams to snap him up on a free transfer and he will be hoping to form a potent partnership with Clive Platt in the coming campaign.
