Teddy Sheringham was the U's third summer signing in 2007 and the Layer Road club become the fifth English club of a glittering football career.

Since making his debut for Millwall back in 1984, he has gone on to make getting on for 900 professional appearances, with fifty-one international caps to his name.

With so many games under his belt, it is of course difficult to sum up briefly what the legendary striker has achieved.

But, what is perhaps surprising is that it was not until he was 33 that he picked up his first medal as a professional footballer as he won a historic treble with Manchester United.

That included a dramatic equaliser in the Champions League Final against Bayern Munich, with United scoring twice in the dying stages of the game to seal the European trophy.

His international career had a number of landmarks as well - scoring at Euro '96, the World Cup in 1998 and his goal against Greece to send England to the 2000 World Cup was the fastest ever as a substitute.

To best sum up what Teddy has achieved prior to his arrival at Colchester United, we have listed his achievements in the game since turning pro for Millwall twenty-three years ago.

It is fair to say, it makes impressive reading!
